Cape Town’s storm, reported as the “worst storm in living memory”, tore through Plumstead Cemetery on Wednesday night, uprooting trees and pushing over tombstones.

In other incidents an uprooted tree landed on a block of flats in Plumstead and the wind brought down electricity cables in Athlone. No one was injured.
The rains that came with the storm reportedly brought with it falls of up to 26mm in some areas of the city.

All schools were closed in the Western Cape on Wednesday‚ including the province’s four universities — University of Cape Town‚ University of Western Cape‚ Stellenbosch University and Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
